Macaroni Kid Hike: Ashokan Reservoir Promenade

By Jenna Slade - Macaroni Kid Saugerties et. al. April 29, 2021

Ashokan Reservoir Promenade

You have two parking lots to choose from when enjoying the Ashokan Reservoir Promenade.   The East parking lot,27 B W S Rd, Kingston, NY 12401 and Route 28A (just west of Route 213).  Either is a great starting point, or if you have two vehicles, park one car at each lot!

If you haven't checked out the walkway at the Ashokan Reservoir, add it to your list.  This is an easy walk up to 6 miles long (one parking lot out to the next and back).  Beautiful view the entire trip.
It is a perfect trail for biking, walking, running, rollerblading or riding a scooter.
The neverending mountain views are outstanding and you are sure to get some deer sitings!
We walked the whole trail, one parking lot to the other on our most recent trip.  It was the first time we found the J Waldo Smith Monument.  It was a nice little stop towards the middle of the trail.
Hit up this trail at any time of day, but remember there is no tree coverage on a hot sunny day!  The walkway is usually very windy, so prepare for that as well.
I recommend going before sunset, and maybe you will get an even more beautiful treat over the mountains.

Remember to always respect the world around you, including people and our trails.  Learn about "Leave no Trace".  My favorite LNT saying is "Take only pictures, leave only footprints".  Leave the trails clean for our children to enjoy!
