I highly recommend checking this trail out.  We headed over to Columbia County for this hike.  It was about 40 minutes from Saugerties, and worth the drive out! I set the family out on this adventure without knowing much about the trail, besides the fact that there was a waterfall that we may or may not find.  When we arrived we checked out the map, and the trails were very short. We decided to try and hit them all!
We started on the green trail and headed to the end of the red trail.  The trail was a short easy hike with many benches for a quick break or snack if needed.   I'd love to head back here in late spring or summer to check the plant growth out.  The woods seem like a completely different setting than the hikes we are use to.

At the end of the red trail, we hiked about a half a mile.  This was where we could sit and view the falls from above.  It was a beautiful spot to sit and have our little hiking picnic!

It was freezing, so we didn't stay sitting for too long, but can you believe when we looked down at the falls we spotted 2 people swimming!

We backtracked a tiny bit and headed down the green trail.  Since we wanted to get as much distance in as we could, and check out the falls from below, we headed straight down to the blue trail.  This trail is another short one, just remember to make the sharp turn to head back towards the falls.

Hiking down by the water was fun for the kids, they really enjoyed climbing on the different rocks and leaping from rock to rock.  I can see this being a more populated hike in the summer, but for now it was nice being the only ones there.  The swimmers were gone by the time we got there.  My kids also noted the "no swimming" sign and were wondering why there was people swimming there... 1 because of the rule and 2 because it was absolutely freezing!
We enjoyed the short hike back to the trailhead, we all agreed we want to come back to fish and hike in the summer!
And of course, what is a hike without a bridge?  I think bridges may be a requirement for hikes when kids are coming along!
Remember to always respect the world around you, including people, our trails and the wildlife living along the trail.  Do you have a favorite spot to hike or take a stroll?  Email me at JennaS@macaronikid.com
