The Comeau Property

95 Comeau Drive, Woodstock, NY 12498

Bringing us back to a more local to us hike, we spent the morning at the beautiful Comeau Property.  If you have not checked this trail out, it is a great one to go with the whole family.  It is a nice flat trail that all ages can enjoy.

We decided to hike the Western Trail, for no reason other than my kids chose to go "right".  A few summers ago, we did the Eastern Trail and it was just as nice!  We will definitely head back in the future and complete the loops together!

We went along the trail when it was very icy.  My children had no problem and actually enjoyed trying to ice skate through certain areas.  I would have benefited from microspikes, but we all were able to get through!

There are a few fields along the hike, stop and enjoy the view and let the kids run in the big open space!
Once you are on the trail, we found most of it was easy to walk through.  Everyone we passed was very respectful and we were never overcrowded along the trail.  As usual, the kids enjoyed taking their turns as hike leader, and spotting the trail signs.
When hiking with kids, it's important to remember you are hiking for their enjoyment as well as your own.  If you go in with a strict goal (speed/distance), you may be disappointed. Kids have their own pace, and part of the fun of hiking with them is to let them enjoy and take in all their surroundings.  We had many stops along this trail, although it was short, we spent a lot of extra time climbing on anything that looked climbable!
It's fun to try and find cool natural playgrounds when on our hikes.  This was a hit for finding balance beams, downed trees to climb, and stumps to balance on!
We had a lot of fun on our weekend adventure.  The kids declared this their favorite hike, full disclosure, they claim this on almost every hike we go on.
