Need some new or forgotten places to take a mom break or get the kids out of the house for some exercise?  Check out some of our favorite places!

This week we visit Ramshorn-Livingston Sanctuary, Catskill NY

Ramshorn-Livingston Sanctuary

109 Dubois Rd, Catskill, NY 12414

If you are looking for a nice and easy hike for yourself and the kids, I highly recommend this hike.  The trail starts at the parking lot with an old farm road.  This road goes down about a half mile and you can easily push an all terrain stroller down and back for this portion.  At the end of the old farm road, you can turn around or head out on the 1-3 of the addition trail loops.  Each of these are less than half a mile.

About 2/3 the way down the Old Farm Road, you will reach the Observation Tower.  Be prepared to spend some time here!  It's a great spot to have some bird's eye views of area.  You can see down to the marsh, where the red, white and blue trails are located.
It's a great alternative to anyone who is wanting to get a little higher up for some beautiful views, but not quite ready to climb a fire tower!
There's a few benches to stop and relax on the different levels, but your kids will want to bring you all the way to the top!

When you make it down to the marsh, you can cross the bridge and choose the rest of your adventure.  Stop for a picnic, check the water wildlife, or head into the woods for additional hiking.  Be sure to check out the map at the trail head near the parking lot to help decide which trail route you want to continue on.  They are no longer stroller friendly, but young hikers can definitely complete them!  As with all trails, watch for roots, rocks and wildlife!
Something to keep in mind when hiking with kids, is to stop and let them enjoy the adventure.  Don't worry if your goal distance isn't met.  Set your goal to be enjoyment by the kids, and for them to want to go out hiking again.  Bring lots of snacks, teach them young to carry a backpack with a water and light snack, and take a lot of breaks. Let them explore the water, climb a rock or tree, and look for bugs under logs and rocks!

Remember to always respect the world around you, including people and our trails.
