An Adirondack Escape... The Wild Center!

The Wild Center Review from Macaroni Kid Saugerties et al.

By Jenna Slade- Macaroni Kid Saugerties-Catskill-Hudson-Rhinebeck July 5, 2018

We recently had our family vacation up at Raquette Lake in the Adirondacks.  I knew while we were up there we had to take a day to spend at The Wild Center.

The Wild Center is a great for all ages.  Our whole family enjoyed it, even the baby was impressed!

Upon arriving we decided to head to the Wild Walk first.  This is the tree top trail!  It is so fun for the kids.  We got a new perspective of the forest while we hiked above the forest.

We went through a bird watching bridge, climbed in a giant spider web, and then climbed up the giant bald eagle's nest!

Then we walked over suspension bridges to explored a giant tree house and climb down a snag where we got to peek at all the creatures that would be make it their home in the wild...

The Wild Walk is accessible to all!  We had our stroller and were able to get to most of the points with it.  The second time we went to the eagle nest and spider web (my kids always love to go back for a second round of fun) we took a different path, which did not have stroller access, so be sure to ask at the front desk which routes are best for stroller/wheel chair accessibility.   The snag (dead tree trunk) and eagle's nest both are only accessible from stairs.  And there are a few suspension bridges that will not fit a wheel chair.  But you can detour around the bridges if needed ( I did this at first, but then I got brave and went across our second time around)

There are also a few outdoor trails on the ground.  Along these trails you will find a swing, benches for a break, a tree trunk made balance beam, and the pine play area.

Now don't use up all your kids' energy just outside, because you can spend hours exploring inside as well!

There are live animals to check out in their up close exhibits.  Like otters, fish, birds, reptiles, bugs and more!  You can check the schedule for what is being featured in the main hall, or just explore the tanks on your own.

There is also a huge amount of hands on activities and exhibits  My kids really enjoyed being able to touch what is in a river, feeling a cloud, the learning centers and planet Adirondack.

The Wild Center is open from 10-6.  We were there from about 12-5.  But could have easily spent longer there if we got there when I planned!

There is so much to explore and play with, my whole family definitely recommends taking a trip to The Wild Center.  It is located in Tupper Lake, so it is the perfect addition to any Adirondack vacation.  I know so many of you head up to the ADKs for family trips in the summer, and if you haven't this is a great reason to add it to your list!

Visit the Wild Center's website for more information on tickets, daily calendars, and directions.
